Where Is The Water Filter On My Frigidaire Refrigerator?
If you own a Frigidaire refrigerator, you may find that the water filter on your unit is in a different spot than on other brands, but where is it located? A great alternative to drinking your tap water is to use the water that comes directly out of your Frigidaire refrigerator, but you do need to change the filter from time to time to ensure that it is clean and safe to consume. However, a lot of people often find themselves feeling lost when the time comes to replace their Frigidaire water filter, as it is generally not located in the bottom grille of the unit like on most common refrigerators.
Where Is The Water Filter On My Frigidaire Refrigerator?
The water filter on your Frigidaire refrigerator is located on the upper-back righthand side corner of the unit’s interior. However, if you have an older model Frigidaire refrigerator, the water filter may be located inside the bottom grille.
Owning a water filtration system at home is a must for so many people and it is hard to beat the convenience of having one directly installed in your fridge.
According to the EPA, the water that flows out of our taps is free from contaminants and is perfectly safe to drink and it does not need any additional filtering or processing before we consume it. However, it has become apparent that tap water quality varies in each municipality across the country and that it can potentially contain an excessive amount of minerals and trace metals – some of which are dangerous to consume.
If you want to feel safe and secure with your primary drinking source, you can rest assured that the water filter inside of your Frigidaire refrigerator is going to remove any unwanted particles and minerals. With that being said, you need to change the filter every now and then to ensure that it is properly functioning. To help you understand this further we are going to take a closer look at where your Frigidaire refrigerator water filter is located and how you can replace it.
After extensively researching Frigidaire refrigerators, I have been able to gather enough information to determine where the water filter is located on their units. My research has indicated that the majority of modern Frigidaire refrigerators do not have their water filters in the bottom grille of the unit and instead are located within the interior.
Where Is My Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Filter Located?
Just about every modern Frigidaire refrigerator has its water filter located within the interior of the unit. When you open your fridge door, you should see a cylinder-like slot in the top righthand corner.
If the slot is empty, this is where you need to install your Frigidaire refrigerator water filter. However, if you see that there is already a cartridge inside of the slot, that means that your water filter is installed.
With that being said, older model Frigidaire refrigerators may have their water filters located in the bottom grille of the unit. You can access the water filter by removing the grille that is attached to the base of the fridge.
After removing the grille cover, you will see a cartridge slot that is designed for your water filter.
How Often Should I Replace My Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Filter?
Your water filter is designed for longevity so that you do not need to worry about changing it out so frequently. However, much like with any water filter, it does need to be replaced once the filter starts to get worn or your water has an odor.
You should change your Frigidaire refrigerator water filter roughly every 6 months. Although the water filter should still work pretty well after this time period, you will find that its level of filtration will start to deteriorate.
The 6-month estimation also only applies to residences that have a standard level of water consumption. If you have a large household that uses an excessive amount of water or if you are relying on your Frigidaire refrigerator’s water for cooking as well as drinking, you should consider getting yours changed more often.
How to Replace a Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Filter
If you feel like your Frigidaire refrigerator’s water filter is nearing the end of its life, then it’s probably a good time to replace it with a new one. With the modern design that Frigidaire has with its units, replacing the water filter on your fridge is easier than ever.
To ensure that you are using the correct filter replacement for your Frigidaire refrigerator, check your unit’s manual to confirm that the model number matches. One of the most common filters used on modern Frigidaire refrigerators is ‘FPPWFU01’.
1. Turn Off the Ice Maker
The front left door of your Frigidaire refrigerator should have a display located above the water and ice dispenser. One of the buttons on the display will read ‘Ice Maker’.
You want to press and hold the ice maker button for about 3 to 5 seconds – at which point the display will react and make a beep sound to indicate that the ice maker is off. There should also be a sign next to the temperature reading that says ‘Ice Maker Off’ to confirm this.
2. Remove Old Water Filter
Your water filter should be located on the interior of your Frigidaire refrigerator. Open the door of the unit and look towards the upper right-hand side. There will be a cylinder-shaped slot containing your old water filter.
To remove the filter, you need to press down on the end of the filter with some force. After you press on the filter, you will hear a sharp click sound and it will pop out. You can now slide the old filter out of the slot and discard it.
3. Install New Water Filter
Before you install your new water filter, double-check that the model number is compatible with your unit. Otherwise, the installation might not fit.
When you take the new water filter out of the box, you will see two nozzles at the end and a ridge on one side. Turn the nozzles so that they are vertically aligned with your filter slot – with the ridge on the bottom of the cartridge. Slide the new filter straight into the slot and push with some force until you hear a click indicating the filter was installed.
4. Test the Filter
Now that your Frigidaire refrigerator’s filter has been installed, you need to test it to ensure that it works properly before you can begin using it. To start, place a cup under your water dispenser and fill it up with water to confirm that you have proper flow moving through the filter.
Next, take a bucket and engage your water dispenser to run for about 4 minutes. This will get rid of any sediment or unwanted particles. In addition, it will fill up your Frigidaire refrigerator’s lines with fresh and clean water. While this is happening, you may hear a few pops or clicks coming from your filter and unit, which is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
5. Turn on Ice Maker & Reset Water Filter
Once the water has drained for 4 minutes, turn your ice maker back on by holding the ‘Ice Maker’ button for 3 to 5 seconds.
Lastly, you need to reset your water filter by pressing and holding the ‘Water Reset’ button for 3 to 5 seconds. After holding down the button, it will make a beep sound which will tell you that it has properly reset itself.
